Welcome to our 15th season of Shamba Shape Up!

This week we are in Muranga County visiting Farmer Mercy Kiama.

Mercy grew up in Mathare slums Nairobi. She is a city girl who had never lived upcountry or been a farmer. Her husband works in tours and travel. They would telephone farm and after covid, she quit her job and moved to the farm which they have been developing slowly over time. She keeps layers and has cows.

We are learning about:

1. Chicken farming.

2. How to join the Women’s Farmer Association of Kenya.

3. Explore organic fertilizers for planting.

4. The best breeding practices for healthy calves.
