Series 16 - Ep 12: Tomatoes, Sprayer and Calf Management
Welcome to Shamba Shape Up Series 16!
This week we are in Muruka in Muranga county and we are visiting farmer Samson Muraga.
He is a full-time farmer and has been doing it for 10 years now. Started off by planting tomatoes and cabbage then later on brought in cows. On the farm he has tomatoes (in the greenhouse) that he planted 3 months ago.
The tomatoes will be productive for another month. The leaves on his Avocado are shedding off from pest attack. He keeps 15 kienyeji chicken for home consumption. Has a borehole water that he uses for irrigation, biogas and makes his own silage. Currently milking one cow and gets 8 – 10 litres from it. He alsoLeases land in Kabati to plant Bracharia and Napier
We are learning about:
- How you can take care of your tomatoes and keep them free from pests.
- Motorized sprayer that makes spraying your fruit trees easier and more efficient.
- The best ways to care for and feed your calves so they grow into strong, healthy heifers ready for service by 15 months.
