Series 16 - Ep 25: Livestock Vaccination, build using wood, Extermal Parasite and El Niño
Welcome to Shamba Shape Up Series 16!
This week we are in Entashata in Narok county!
It’s been a fantastic season of Shamba Shape Up, and as we wrap up this year’s broadcast, we’re heading to Narok County to meet a truly inspiring farmer, Carol Punyua.
Caroline is a 41-year-old mother of six children. Like many Maasai girls, she was married off at the tender age of 16 years. She was in class 8 then and had to quit school. Her husband passed away some years ago and she had to be the sole breadwinner of the family. She took herself back to school and got her certificate. She now works with the mara in the community projects.
She keeps Beef cattle – Sahiwal about 35 and Goats- around 80.
This week we are learning about:
- How to properly vaccinate your livestock to keep them healthy and free from diseases.
- Show you the right way to protect your animals from external parasites such as ticks, mites and fleas.
- Why wood can be a great option for building? And how you can use it to create the perfect space to sit back and relax after a long day on the shamba.
- As we prepare for the upcoming short rains, we’ll share tips on how to get your farm ready and what to plant especially with El Niño expected this season.
