Welcome to Shamba Shape Up Series 16!

This week we are in Lenchani, Isinya in Kajiado county and we are visiting farmer Jonathan & Naomi Kiranto.

The couple has been farming for a number of years.They got a pump 6 years ago so that they can farm even when there is drought. Unfortunately, it recently broke down but they have procured another one under a payment plan with sunculture.

They have maize and beans (rain-fed), Vegetables under irrigation, 22 cows and 10 sheep.

We are learning about:

  1. How you can finance and set up a solar-powered irrigation system to keep your farm productive all year round, even during the dry season.
  2. The importance of vaccinating your livestock and the correct vaccination practices from our expert vet from the Kenya Veterinary Association.
  3. How the Kenya Meteorological Service Authority uses satellite data to deliver weather updates straight to your phone via SMS, helping you plan your farming activities for better productivity.

On Shamba Ni Biz, tensions continue to rise. Every family meeting ends in bitter arguments and growing conflict. Will Musa's family find a way to resolve their differences before they tear the family apart?
