Series 2 - Ep 14: Coffee, Post-Harvest, Nutrition and Record Keeping

Welcome to Shamba Shape Up Uganda!

This week we’re in Nankobe Village Nkozi Sub-County and we are visiting Albert Nkuubi and his wife Nakyegwe Norin who have 3 children, Albert used to be a plumber in the city but chose to relocate to the village in 2018 to pursue farming.

Albert being a young farmer has fragmented plots and on them he grows coffee, bananas, passion fruits, Maize, he also has goats, pigs.

Albert Nkuubi is professionally trained as a plumber and after working in the capital city for some year Albert realized that he wasn’t breaking even, he would go weeks without work and some of the clients would not pay. With a family to feed and bills to pay Albert decided to relocate to the village in 2018. He first started farming on his father’s 4 acres, slowly by slowly Albert expanded to now where he has 4 pieces of land of his own. On that land he has planted coffee, bananas, passion fruits, beans, sweet potatoes and maize. He even has some maize in the store waiting to fetch a better price.

Albert is also married to Nakyegwe Norin with 3 children aging 6 years, 3 years and 2 months respectively. Norin also has a small business where she sells fruits to contribute the family income.

Albert still does plumb job but his main income comes from farming
