Series 2 - Ep 21: Coffee, Banana, Broiler and Electric Pressure Cooker
Welcome to Shamba Shape Up Uganda!
Today we’re in Mukono district and we’re visiting Moses Kasirivu and his lovely wife Irene Namubiru, they have 7 children, Moses values quality education and his children go to good schools.
The farmer we are visiting, he has school fees to pay and it is sad he had to sell all his cows at the beginning of this school term.
With a large family and the responsibility of securing a good future for their children, Moses and Irene are driven by a strong desire to give their children the best education they can afford. They have invested all their efforts in farming on their 5-acre farm, where they engage in various enterprises such as coffee, bananas, maize, beans, sweet potatoes, and animal rearing, including goats, poultry, and dairy. However, they recently had to sell their last cow to pay for school fees.
Farmers like Moses and Irene constitute a significant portion of Ugandan farmers. While they recognize the financial potential of agriculture, they often fail to treat their enterprises as true businesses. In this episode, our focus is to highlight this aspect by taking a walkthrough of their farm and emphasizing the value attached to each enterprise. The aim is to shift their mindset and encourage them to view farming as a viable business opportunity, thereby motivating them to invest the necessary time and effort to ensure profitability.
In this farm we learn about:
