Series 3 - Ep 10: Horticulture, Value Addition, Manure and Record Keeping
Welcome to Shamba Shape Up Uganda!
This week we’re in Lukoma village in Wakiso District and we want to see what our 50-year-old farmer Tabia Stephen, is doing on his 5 acres.
Like most farms here, Tabia’s land is divided in plots. He grows mainly chili but his wife Namazi Josephine grows coffee, bananas, cassava maize and beans for food security.
Tabia used to be in the charcoal which is harmful to the environment and cattle business but 6 years ago he was encouraged by the brother to plant chili and he has bever looked back.
We are learning about:
1. How to farm for export.
2. How to add frass an organic manure to get the best harvest.
3. What do we do when we produce too much and flood the market?
4. Keeping track of agricultural business.
