Series 2 - Ep 1: Soil test and Certified seeds (Re-edit)

Welcome to Munda Make Over!

Hello farmers, we’re back! But before we start visiting new farms, we want to go back to the old farmers that we visited, see what happened in their farms and talk more about climate change.

We will now look at some actions we can take to get ready for the upcoming season.

We are learning about:

1. Importance of a Soil test

• Doing a soil test will show you what nutrients your soil needs so you can avoid spending money on unnecessary fertilizers.

• It will also show you how much you need to put and when you should put depending on the crop you are planting.

• A soil test will help you figure out which nutrients your soil lacks.

• There's another thing to consider, and that's soil pH. Soil pH tells you whether your soil is acidic or not. Different crops do well in different pH levels. For example, pH 1-4 is very acidic, and pH 10-14 is very alkaline.

• A soil test will show you clearly the PH of your soil and what you need to do depending on the crop you want to grow.

2. Importance of buying Certified drought-resistant seeds.

• Drought-resistant seeds are available for various crops. Whenever you're buying seeds, make sure to ask for certified drought-resistant varieties. It's that simple!

• it's important not to replant maize in the same piece of land.
