Series 2 - Ep 22: Drought tolerant maize, Insurance, Weather and Gender

Welcome to Munda Make Over!

This week, we are in Kanyongoloka in Rufunsa seeing how we can help two farmers Adrian Tembo and Queen Banda grow their love for farming even more.

After working in Lusaka for many years, Adrian and Queen moved to their farm in 2020. They love life on the farm and are happy to have left the city. They normally grow maize, groundnuts, soya beans and sunflower. The current drought has really affected them and they have lost all their crop this season.

Their saving grace is their tomato garden, which uses solar irrigation from a stream on the farm. Queen also bakes buns but this time round people in the community do not have money to spend due to the drought.

We are learning about:

1. Importance of planting certified drought tolerant Maize.

2. Importance of Insuring your Crops and Livestock

3. Role of Women in farming.
