This week we’re in Chibombo in Central province and we’re visiting farmers Caroline Mwanza & David Kayeka.
Caroline is 42 years old and has a 2-hectare farm. She grows Chilies, Rape, Green Peppers. She does drip irrigation although her solar pump is not powerful enough for water to reach the tank, so it goes direct. She started farming in 2015.
They have 6 children, the eldest who has now left school is already part of the family business.
We are learning about:
1. How to read forecast to know which seed to plant, when to plant and when to top dress.
2. How to manage our Water Resources using the moisture meter.
3. We find out how to retain moisture in the soil once it’s been applied.
4. How to best apply fertilisers in small and measured amounts for maximized yield.
