Series 3 - Ep 12: Climate smart seed, Rip Lines,Village Chicken & Hermetic Bag

Welcome to Munda MakeOver!

This week we’re in Mwana Mpangwe Camp, Katete district in Eastern province and we’re visiting farmer Martha Phiri.

Martha Phiri is a 44-year-old single mother of four children aged between 13 and 21. She began farming in 2002, although she grew up on a farm. She is a hardworking farmer who is eager to learn and improve her practices on her 3-acre piece of land which she grows cotton, maize, groundnuts, and soya beans.

Making a profit is key for Martha, so we show how climate smart seeds guarantee a harvest, also CA and rip lines support the seeds, and then get a better price at market by storing longer and without pesticides. So, our main theme is making more money by getting ‘climate smart’.

We are learning about:

1. Benefits of Climate Smart Seed.

2. The Climate smart method of planting smart seed using ripping method.

3. How to take care of the village chicken.

4. Importance of hermetic bags for post-Harvest storage.
